Our son, William who is 6 years old, has been doing Jujutsu in Droitwich for just over 12 months. When he first started training he really lacked confidence when it came to new things, as he was scared of getting things wrong. This had a big effect on his learning in his Reception Year at school. He would never put his hand up in class as he had a fear of getting the answer wrong and he just didn’t believe in himself enough to “have a go”. William really struggled with his confidence!  Since starting Jujutsu, because Coach Jonathan gets the children to show him in front of the rest of the class what they have learnt in the lesson, William is now confident enough to stand up in front of a group and have a really good go, he doesn’t always get it right first time, but with help and guidance from coach Jonathan he gets there in the end and feels great for trying.  As a result of this his Year One at school has been so much better. He has learnt that it is good to have a go. He puts his hand up in class so much more and has grown from strength to strength, thanks to Jonathan and Jujutsu.

William has recently passed his yellow belt white strip and he is so proud of himself and so are we.

I have asked William what he likes doing in Jujutsu and he said “Doing hard work in class, because Coach Jonathan praises you when you work hard”

William had NO dislikes!!

His favourite move is the Hip Throw and he thinks Coach Jonathan is fantastic because he is really good at Jujutsu and plays really cool games at the end of class.

My name is Owen, I am 11 years old. I have been training with Sensei
Jon for five years in Droitwich.  I have just got my green belt!

The best things about Jujutsu are:  learning to defend yourself while
having fun!  Everyone is your friend at Jujutsu, even the older
students.

My favourite technique is "dropping seionage".  I have competed in
different competitions and even won a gold medal - which was the best
feeling ever!

Sensei Jon is fun to be around, but is also good at discipline, when we
need it!  You can always go to Sensei with your problems, even if they
are outside of Jujutsu, he always gives us advice and talks to your
parents too!

Jujutsu has made me confident in myself and also that i could defend
myself, if i needed to.  It's not all work, work, work though..... we
also have fun too and play games like dodgeball.

So if you're thinking about having a go at Jujutsu, don't think twice
and try it!!!!

Hi, my name is Lorcan O'Toole, I'm 48 and have been doing Jujutsu for about 4 years now. At the moment I'm a green belt training hard for my blue belt.
I think learning Jujutsu is a bit bit like learning a foreign language. Sensai teaches you some basic words then you combine them into short phrases and soon you are using sentences. As in life sometimes a couple of well chosen words are all you need , believe me.
When I first started I was mainly interested in self defence and this martial art is very simple and effective at this but the techniques which I most admire are the wrist locks like Nikio and Sankajo:very simple almost effortless if done correctly and devastating in effect.
Once you find your feet a bit I would wholeheartedly recomend the seminars which are put on a few times a year, great fun and a great way to put right any weak areas we may have as a club or individually.
I think if you want to learn a martial art the Jujutsu is a great choice it's a bit old school, most of the others owe their origins to it . You will learn how to do some great techniques at a friendly club in a very safe environment.
I would recommend Sensai Jon to anyone young or a bit older like myself as he treats us all the same and is very dedicated at getting the very best out of all his students. Oh and Sensai Jon is refreshingly old school as well.
If you haven't tried Jujutsu yet don't worry you won't fit in as there are a very broad range of ages, shapes and sizes from all sorts of backgrounds.
I seem to remember that the first lesson is free so give it a go, you won't regret it. A word of warning however.. it's a bit addictive.
